Explanation about how stereoscope is build and works

hello!
I would like to understand better how the package “stereoscope” works so I can contribute some ideas I have in the future.

  1. where is it decides to use “all-layers” vs “squashed”
  2. do you think it will be able to filter in the future files by other categories (file path, mimetypes of files)
  3. do you think some other features we discussed here will be able to be solved in this project? - Enhance scoping selections · Issue #15 · anchore/syft · GitHub

I think my main goal here is to understand better the design behind this package, since it looks like an important one when it comes to scanning containers.
